About London Photographer JC Candanedo

I’m a Queer, Catalan-Panamanian socially-engaged Multidisciplinary Artist and Photographer based in the UK.

My practice explores how the Visual Arts can be used to bring attention to issues that might otherwise go unnoticed and create a sense of solidarity and connection among people who share common struggles.

I use photographic processes, mixed-media and performance to investigate Identity, Migration and Displacement, and participate in collaborative projects and community-based initiatives that promote Social Change.

Alongside my own projects, I offer Creative One-On-One Mentoring Sessions and Consultancy, and Talks, Webinars and Workshops to help creatives turn their ideas into projects, successfully manage their projects from inception to completion, and run a practice with a social orientation while creating projects for Social Transformation.

I am the Co-Chair of the Board of Trustees of Axis, an independent UK-based charity dedicated to supporting artists, and a Fellow of the Center for Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania. I am also a member of the Sustainability Working Group of the Association Of Photographers - AOP, a member of the Project Advisory Board for the Creative Community Fellows at Derby Museums, and a Students' Career Mentor at the School of Art of Kingston University.

I am also the Co-Founder of Noria Collective alongside Sandy Abdelrahman, a collective of socially-engaged artists championing the voices of people from the Global Majority living in the diaspora through cultural production, programme delivery and consultancy.

Ultimately, my goal is to use my work to help make the World a Better place through Creativity, embedding Social Purpose in everything I do.

If you have a project you'd like to discuss, or any questions you would like to ask, just get in touch. I'd love to hear from you!
